BSNL First Time in India Introduces WiMAX Service

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has introduced a worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX), the wireless broadband service first time in India. With WiMAX, users in rural areas can access 7 Mbps broadband speed.

BSNL has launched WiMAX broadband service starting from Ajmer, Rajasthan. BSNL has introduced more than 200 base stations in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Also BSNL is planning to launch 1,000 block headquarters all over the country very soon. For this whole project approx. 225 crore are expected to be invest.
BSNL users can avail the WiMAX broadband service for a tariff rate of Rs. 140 per month. BSNL users can access internet service with a speed of 7 Mbps at a distance of 15 km.
With this high speed broadband service users can access video conferencing, tele-medicine, tele-education, payment of utility bills, issue of birth certificates, land records, vehicle registration etc.
