Mobile Number Portability finally arrives
After facing many hurdles, Mobile Number Portability has finally taken off. This facility is only available in Haryana for now but will be available Pan-India by January 20th, 2011.
What is Mobile Number Portability?
Simply Put, with Mobile Number Portability you can change your telecom operator without changing your existing number. If you are an existing Vodafone customer , you can simply change your connecttion to Airtel or vice versa without having to let go of your old number.
For this, you need to send an sms from you phone to 1900. A Unique Porting Code will be sent to your phone which you can give to your new operator. For a fee of Rs.19 or less, operator will start the process of shifting your number.
MNP is currently possible only within certain circle.
