Mobile Number Portability (MNP) deadline shifted to March 31st 2010

DoT has shifted the MNP date to 31st March after facing technical glitches. Number Portability would allow users to shift to different operators without a change in the mobile number.
The Service Operators holding more number of Postpaid accounts are not in favour of Number Portability as their profits might take a hit when users decide to migrate to other telecom operators. The newer Telecom Operators like Tata Docomo and Uninor are the ones who stand to profit when the number portability is operational
The start of MNP may mean the start of another tariff war among the telecom operators where the only obvious winner would be the subscriber!
