Postpaid SMS Ban in Jammu and Kashmir is withdrawn
DoT had banned the postpaid SMS service in Jammu and Kashmir and restricted the prepaid SMS service to 10 SMSes per day. But now this SMS ban is withdrawn.
Now postpaid customers in Jammu and Kashmir can enjoy uninterrupted SMS service in the circle. DoT had ordered to all telecom operators in Jammu and Kashmir to stop providing postpaid SMS service in the circle. Also prepaid SMSes are also restricted to 10 SMSes per day. But now is asked to withdraw its postpaid SMS ban and restriction for prepaid customers to send 10 SMSes per day in J&K.
However the postpaid SMS service was banned, due to some security reasons and to stop the misuse of SMS service by some anti social elements.
Omar Abdullah said, “We asked for banning of bulk SMS facility which we believe is being used to spread rumors and gossip in the name of news and is also being used to cheat subscribers. Such organizations (misusing bulk SMS) are mushrooming. This request has not been understood properly.”
He added, “This harassment needs to be put to an end once and for all and the bureaucrats need to learn their lessons while dealing with sensitive border states, especially Jammu and Kashmir.”
"The fresh order may not touch individual subscribers who send `single' or very limited number of `bulk' text messages per day," said a home ministry official.
