Idea's 'Talk for India Hour' Campaign acknowledged by Home Minister.
In a befitting ceremony, Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram recognized Idea Cellular's Contribution of Rs 2.5 Crore to the Police Force through the 'Talk for India Hour' conducted on 26/11 this year.
A year after 26/11 terror attacks on Mumbai, the Aditya Birla Group Company, Idea Cellular announced ‘Talk for India Hour’. Idea Subscribers were made aware through commercials in TV, print, radio and the internet that for every call they made between 8.36 p.m. and 9.36 p.m. on the evening of 26/11, the net revenue generated would be donated by Idea Cellular for funds for protective gear for police personnel.
On the day of 26th November Idea organised candle light ceremonies across 15 states in around 30 cities to remember the victims and the police personnel who lost their lives in the terror attack.
The 'Talk for India Hour' garnered a total of Rs. 1.25 crore as subscriber calls. Idea Cellular doubled the amount, and contributed a total sum of Rs. 2.50 crores for the Prime Minister’s National Defence Fund.
Mr. Sanjeev Aga, Managing Director, Idea Cellular said in the cermony where he handed over the cheque to the Hon'ble Home Minister, “Beyond mere money and words, the question we asked was what extra we could do to convert raw emotion into a force multiplier. In our case, our huge 5.5 crore subscriber base, straddling all cross-sections of society provided the inspiration. It is the Idea family’s salute to our much maligned, over-worked, under-equipped Indian police force, saying that as you transform to take on our enemies, we are solidly behind you.
He also said that "The acknowledgement by the Hon’ble Home Minister is a huge encouragement.”
